‘Phineas And Ferb’ Meet Superheroes In Disney’s ‘Mission Marvel’

The new Disney Channel special is the first cross-over between the animated characters and the Marvel Superheroes, the show is called Phineas And Ferb: Mission Marvel.

For Phineas And Ferb co-creator Dan Povenmire, the challenge was to not offend fans of either camp. He states that doing something the superheroes fans think is cheesy and violates the characters would make them angry. It had to work for both sides.

This will be the first Disney production using Marvel characters since the studio giant bought out the company in 2009.

It brings heroes Spider-man (Drake Bell), Iron Man (Adrian Pasdar), Thor (Travis Willingham), and the Hulk (Fred Tatasciore) to the town of Danville, home of mad scientist inventors Phineas (Vincent Martella) and brother Ferb (Thomas Sangster).

Megalomaniac Dr. Doofenshmirtz (Povenmire) is stopped by the boys’ friend Perry the Platypus once again, but his “Power Drain-inator” misfires, bouncing off a satellite and taking away the powers of the Marvel superheroes in New York City.

Marvel villains Red Skull (Liam O’Brien), Venom (Danny Trejo), Whiplash (Peter Stormare), and M.O.D.O.K. (Charlie Adler) decide to find Doofenshmirtz guy and begin wreaking havoc in Danville.

The superheroes track down Phineas and Ferb and after some mix ups are resolved the brothers and their friends, including their sister Candace (Ashley Tisdale) rally to help the good guys.

The show is full of references to the Marvel characters and co-creator Jeff Marsh says it was a challenge to use the characters, since each one has it’s own sets of rules.

Povenmire and Marsh had some in depth discussions about all the little details that entail each character, like the one about lifting Thor’s mystical hammer. But according to the pair that was the most fun.

Disney liked this concept so much that they are working on the next project, Phineas And Ferb: Star Wars, with a tentative release of summer of 2014.

Phineas And Ferb: Mission Marvel is a one hour episode which airs Friday, August 16, at 8 ET on Disney Channel.
