Cory Monteith’s Final Film ‘McCanick’ To Premiere In Toronto


Cory Monteith’s final film McCanick will premiere this September at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Monteith, who tragically past away last month at the age of 31, plays a character named Simon Weeks. According to Entertainment Weekly, the movie follows Weeks as he gets released from prison.

Director Josh C. Waller said that Cory Monteith was excited about the role because it allowed him to tap into some experiences from his youth.

Waller said: “The character [Cory] plays is this drug-addicted street hustler, and he was wanting to tap into things from his youth — which he’s been very open about publicly. I think he saw the role as an opportunity for catharsis.”

Monteith was found dead in his hotel room in Vancouver on July 13. Authorities said that the Glee star died of a heroin overdose.

The Glee star was honored this week when his girlfriend and co-star Leah Michele took the stage at the Teen Choice Awards. The young singer dedicated her award to Monteith, saying: “For all of you out there who loved and admired Cory as much as I did, I promise that with your love we’re going to get through this together. He was very special to me and also to the world… We were very lucky to witness his incredible talent, his handsome smile, and his beautiful, beautiful heart.”

Cory Monteith’s last film will premiere at the Toronto Film Festival on September 9.
