Daily Caller’s Whitey Bulger Headline Focuses On Kate Upton, Boners
Notorious Boston mob boss Whitey Bulger was found guilty Monday on a multitude of offenses spread over a lifetime in the criminal underworld. It’s the end of an era, but the Daily Caller didn’t seem to find the story all that interesting. Still, they wanted to get some traffic out of the case, so they ran the questionable “11 Whiteys who give us Bulgers” instead.
Yeah, it’s exactly what it sounds like.
Basically, the Daily Caller turned the conviction of a man guilty of taking part in 11 mob-related murders into a “Top 11” list of white models and actresses that shrink Scoops Delacroix’s waistband.
“In light of the Whitey Bulger verdict, here are 11 Whiteys who give us Bulgers,”Delacroix writes. “Get it? We really hope you get it.”
Oh, we get it. It’s not really that subtle. Somewhat like your nom de guerre.
The list is topped by Sports Illustrated supermodel Kate Upton, and includes Mila Kunis, Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Aniston, and Pippa Middleton.
Scantily-clad photos of each woman are accompanied by salient remarks like: “Cameron Diaz has legs for dias,” and “Bar Rafaeli has been known to raise the, um, bar.”
Good God, man. What? Why?
We have no idea, but apparently Scoops Delacroix, described as a “freelance writer and whaling enthusiast,” isn’t even a real person. Fishbowl DC says that the name is a fake reporter byline for deputy editor Will Rahn and senior editor Jamie Weinstein, probably for posts… well, for posts like this. Ones that inspire some backlash.
And it has.
Daily Caller’s own commenters have lambasted the post for being “disgusting,” “beneath the lowest bar,” and “worse than The Huffington Post.”
“I mean, seriously…why bother with the innuendo?” writes commenter Max Artifice. “Why not just make the headline: ‘Here Are The Women That The DC Editors Fantasize About While Masturbating?’ ”
But hey, Scoops gets the views and the buzz, so I guess it works.
