AT&T Wireless Settles Mobile Data Taxes Lawsuit

Did you receive a text message today from AT&T Wireless explaining that you can claim money as part of a settlement? That message comes after AT&T settled accusations that they were illegally charging mobile data taxes that violated the federal Internet Tax Freedom Act and various other laws.

The settlement was agreed upon in July and just enacted by the mobile carrier.

The text message sent today asks users to visit a special dedicated website that includes more information about the settlement and includes details from the hearing that was original held in Chicago on March 10.

If you were charged Internet taxes between November 1, 2005 and September 7, 2010 you are eligible to receive some benefits, although the amount each customer can claim remains undisclosed.

While AT&T has stated that they will not claim any wrongdoing, they have agreed under the settlement to avoid charging internet taxes to their customer base moving forward.
