Usher Wins Latest Custody Battle After Son’s Near-Drowning

Usher will keep primary custody of his two sons with ex-wife Tameka Foster after a judge dismissed her motion for emergency custody.

The request was made by Tameka on Tuesday, just one day after the former couple’s oldest son, Usher Raymond V, almost drowned while playing in a pool.

The five-year-old became stuck in the pool’s drain after attempting to retrieve one of his toys, notes NBC News. While his great-aunt Rena Oden and two other women attempted to free him, the rescue was finally made by two audio-visual contractors working at the home.

They performed CPR on Usher V while waiting for an ambulance. But while the boy is expected to make a complete recover, according to sources, the incident struck a nerve with Tameka.

Judge John J. Goger heard testimony from Usher, Tameka, and Oden during the almost two-hour court hearing. But in the end, he sided with Usher, dismissing Tameka’s request.

The singer was awarded primary custody of the two boys in 2012 after a long court battle. This time around, Tameka told the court that she doesn’t know much about where her kids are, and that she knew nothing about the house where the incident happened, notes USA Today.

Tameka added that Usher doesn’t answer emails or calls about her sons and that the singer hasn’t been by his son’s bed in the hospital very much this week.

While the judge dismissed Tameka’s motion, he warned Usher that “you would be well-advised to keep your former spouse informed about your whereabouts and who is taking care of the kids.”

Usher’s lawyer, John Mayoue, also stated that the children are “thriving” in the singer’s custody and that the former couple’s oldest son is “expected to be discharged on Sunday.”

Despite high emotions on both sides of the battle, Usher hugged Tameka after the judge made his ruling.
