Dwyane Wade, Sons, Honor Trayvon Martin With Hoodie Cover

Dwyane Wade is in the news this week for something other than his contentious divorce. The Miami Heat star and his sons paid tribute to Trayvon Martin and his family by posing in a hoodie for Ebony magazine’s September issue.

All three Wade men are pictured wearing hoodies sweatshirts, a symbol of the Trayvon Martin case and the George Zimmerman trial. Martin was shot by Zimmerman last year and was wearing a hoodie the night he was killed.

Wade has expressed support for Trayvon Martin and his family in the past. After George Zimmerman’s controversial acquittal, Wade tweeted:

“Wow! Stunned!! Saddened as a father!! Som1 make sense of this verdict for me right now please!!! … How do I explain this to my boys?”

The September issue of Ebony features interviews with both of Martin’s parents as well as an interview with Wade and two other celebs featured on the cover: Spike Lee and Boris Kodjoe.

The issue has a unique focus, discussing how each man talks about racism with his children. The issue also comes after Ebony’s editor-in-chief Amy Barnett issued a press release on the Trayvon Martin case.

“As a mother of a young Black boy, the tragedy of Travyon Martin affected me deeply,” she said.

“We simply cannot allow the conversations on this issue to come to a standstill. As the leading source for an authoritative perspective on the African-American community, at Ebony we are committed to serving as a hub for Black America to explore solutions, and to giving readers the information and tools they need to help ensure a bright future for all of our children.”
