‘Splinter Cell: Blacklist’ Trailer Issues A New Threat [Video]

A new Splinter Cell: Blacklist trailer issues a new kind of threat.

Tom Clancy‘s Rainbow Six created a phenomenon in the gaming industry, reinventing the stealth game genre as it went. The most recent storyline in the series is called Splinter Cell, in which Patricia Caldwell (the current President of the US) has now shut down the Third Echelon, replacing it with the Fourth Echelon. Sam Fisher is a lone wolf this time around, taking commands only from the President herself but on his own as to how to complete the mission. The Blacklist is a series of targets being threatened by terrorists, and if they are not stopped, one new attack will occur every day.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist introduces a new style of stealth gameplay involving “chain kills,” where you target a number of enemies and then proceed to race along and kill them as you go.

The new Splinter Cell: Blacklist trailer begins with a deep distorted voice telling us, “You don’t realize it yet, but you are fighting a new kind of war. And you are losing.” As the monologue plays out we see a timer counting down days.

We then see night-time scenes of war happening in the distance as a female news reporter announces, “Every oil rig I see is on fire.”

A male voice follows up, “The attacks have been linked to a group known as the Engineers, but little else is known about them.”

Random acts of violence play in a montage with a room with a giant monitor watching the news broadcast. Then we see a screen counting down with the words “Countdown to next attack.”

We then see some military types in conversation. A man says, “Caldwell’s gonna declare war unless we give her another solution. … We won’t waste time playing defense.”

Splinter Cell: Blacklist’s hero Sam Fisher finally gets the spotlight, checking what looks like a hand-held monitor. He watches a video of a man hanging by his arms, quite alive.
