Rashida Jones Confirms Exit From Parks And Rec

Rashida Jones and Rob Lowe will be leaving Parks And Recreations during the show’s sixth season.

News about the duo’s departure broke earlier this week but now Jones and Lowe have both confirmed the news.

Rashida writes on Twitter: It’s true.I’m leaving Pawnee next year. Such a bittersweet time for me… I love my P&R family so deeply. #LeslieAndAnnForever #ParksandRec

Lowe adds: Thanks @KenTremendous It has literally been a world class pleasure. I’m sure Chris will take great care of… Ann Perkins!!

Jones has been on Parks and Recreations since the show started in 2009 while Lowe joined the cast during the second season. Their characters, Ann Perkins and Chris Traeger, have gone through an on / off romance during the show but decided to have a baby together in season 5.

Executive producer Mike Schur said: “The news about Rob and Rashida is true — they will be leaving the show after the 13th episode of the upcoming season 6. We’ve been working on their storyline (on and off) for four seasons now, and heading into this year, with the two of them contemplating parenthood, it felt like a natural time to move them into the next phase.”

Schur added that Jones and Lowe have been a huge part of the Pawnee life and that he hopes to give them a proper send off.

Schur said: “We absolutely love both Rashida and Rob, and will be sad to see them go. Rashida was one of the very first people we knew we wanted in the cast, and as important as Ann is to Leslie (and vice-versa), she’ll certainly never be far from Pawnee… Rob we initially thought we could only have for six or eight episodes, and we couldn’t be happier that he will have stuck around for 75. They are wonderful, funny, committed actors, they’ve been a huge part of the Parks and Rec family, and we think we have a great Pawnee send-off in the works for them.”
