Jennifer Mee, famous for chronic hiccups, charged with murder in Florida

A few years back, teen Jennifer Mee made headlines for her chronic hiccups.

Mee’s claim to fame in 2007 was an incurable case of the generally common but annoying hiccup lasting six weeks, but now she may face the death penalty for her involvement in a “robbery gone awry” in St. Petersburg, Florida. Mee, now 19, is accused along with two co-conspirators of luring 22-year-old Shannon Griffin to a location on Saturday where he was fatally shot during the commission of a robbery.

The St. Petersburg Times describes the sequence of events that lead to Griffin’s murder over the weekend:

After Mee brought Griffin to 511 Seventh St. N, (Laron) Raiford and (Lamont) Newton approached him with a gun and tried to take “miscellaneous items” from Griffin, police say. Griffin suffered several gunshot wounds to his upper body after he struggled, police said.

Police say all three of the accused have admitted their involvement in the crime. Mee’s first court appearance is set for later today.
