Randy Orton Attacked During WWE Match [Video]

WWE superstar Randy Orton was performing at a WWE event in South Africa on Tuesday night when he was punched by a fan.

In a video captured by another fan, Orton moves to the corner and climbs up the ropes to strike his signature post. As Orton turns his back to the ring, an unidentified man walks up and punches him between the legs.

Security officials on-hand for the event immediately arrested the man, who is currently being held on pending charges.

Fans were left to wonder if the event had been staged. Following the attack, officials from the WWE wrote:

“WWE.com has learned that Randy Orton was violently attacked by an audience member during a SmackDown World Tour Live Event in Cape Town, South Africa, this evening. Footage of the attack was captured by a WWE fan and posted to YouTube, and shows the perpetrator striking Orton from behind. The matter is currently under investigation by the local authorities, and the South African fan is being held in jail pending criminal charges. The extent of Orton’s injuries are unknown at this time.”

Watch the video closely, and you’ll see Orton land a nice kick to the crazed fans head before he is lead away by security.

The attack may not have been staged, but it has given the WWE plenty of publicity. The term “Randy Orton” has been trending ever since the attack took place.
