Pauletta Washington Told Denzel ‘No’ Two Times

Pauletta Washington told Denzel “no” the first two times he proposed marriage. During the premier of 2 Guns, the couple playfully bickered about the actual number of times Denzel proposed. However, Pauletta insists that she finally said “yes” the third time.

The couple recently celebrated thirty years of marriage. Amid rumors of an affair, the couple has remained strong. Denzel denied rumors of divorce earlier this month.

As reported by Entertainment Wise, the rumors allege that Denzel was kissing and flirting with another woman at a Malibu party. Pictures of the pair kissing were reportedly up for auction to the highest bidder.

The incident fueled rumors that Pauletta Washington was filing for a divorce. Through a representative, Denzel denied the rumors, stating that he and his wife “are not divorcing, not separating.”

In an interview with Ebony magazine, Pauletta explains how her marriage has stayed strong:

“I live with this man… I see every part. He has and knows he has that stability in me as his wife. That’s gives him strength, regardless of if he misuses it. I can’t dwell on that. But I do know that gives him a great platform to go and fly.”

Rumors of infidelity have plagued the couple’s marriage. However, Pauletta has never given up on her husband. She made a decision to love him unconditionally, and she remains by his side.

The couple’s appearance together at Denzel’s latest movie premier underlines the strength of their marriage. Although they could not readily agree how many times Denzel proposed, they held hands and smiled throughout the questioning.

Denzel Washington finally admitted that his wife was probably right:

“You heard it here first. She turned me down, she said no. And since it was three times, that means she turned me down twice.”

As reported by Miami Herald, Denzel is currently preparing for a return to Broadway. Although he will not be singing, he will appear in A Raisin in the Sun. He explains that previews will begin in March.

Pauletta Washington often performs in theater. Denzel states that he is simply “trying to keep up with [his] wife.”
