DJ Khaled’s Nicki Minaj Proposal Was A Publicity Stunt For New Single [Listen]

Suspicion redeemed! Turns out, DJ Khaled’s proposal to Nicki Minaj was indeed just a publicity stunt, but not for her new fragrance. The two are dropping a single together.

DJ Khaled was talking to MTV last week when he randomly popped the question to Minaj on the air.

“Nicki Minaj, I’m at MTV, I’m going to be honest with you; I love you… I like you, I want you, I want you to be mine. Nicki Minaj, will you marry me? If you gotta take your time and think about it, I understand, but I know I have to be here today to let you know how serious I am and how serious this is to me.”

He even had a 10 karat Rafaello & Co. ring reportedly worth $500,000.

The DJ Khaled Nicki Minaj proposal story spawned numerous unconfirmed reports suggesting everything from “the proposal is serious and Minaj is thinking about it” to “she’s getting a restraining order against him,” but the truth is much simpler. They’re just promoting their new song, “I Wanna Be With You.”

It’s an orchestral tune with lines from Minaj like: “‘Cause he bought a couple bags / And he sent a couple whips / And he took a couple trips / And there’s dinner in the mix / And he’s never with no other chick / Fronting like he’s slick / ’cause it’s levels to this s—t / and she could never be Nick.”

Rick Ross joins with a few lines of rhyme while Future pulls chorus duty with signature auto-tune.

You can listen to it below, and let us know if you think DJ Khaled’s Nicki Minaj proposal was really just a publicity stunt for this. Khaled’s album Suffering From Success is out September 17.
