The first BCS rankings of 2010

Ok I guess it is the time for all of us to start bitching, the first 2010 BCS rankings have been released, and in what is becoming a familiar story Boise State seems to be getting the shaft. Before we go any further here are the top ten in the BCS rankings:

  1. Oklahoma
  2. Oregon
  3. Boise State
  4. Auburn
  5. TCU
  6. LSU
  7. Michigan State
  8. Alabama
  9. Utah
  10. Ohio State

Now eight of these teams are undefeated, and the other two have one loss. With that in mind I don not find too much fault in this ranking. How do we differentiate unbeaten teams? That is the ultimate challenge of the BCS system. Sure Alabama and Ohio State both have a loss but they are ranked 8th and 10th respectively.

So once again we have an unbeaten Boise State team that is ranked third by the BCS. In the USA Today Coaches Poll and AP Poll they are ranked second. The Harris Poll also has the Broncos sitting in second. Given all that I do not see how the BCS can have them ranked third. Given that fact that TCU is also ranked if the rankings stay like this we can bet the BCS will chicken out once again and have the two smaller programs play one another in a BCS game.
