Adult Swim Buys Ads During FOX’s ‘Animation Domination High-Def’

If you thought that FOX’s Animation Domination High-Def (ADHD) bore more than a passing resemblance to Adult Swim, then you’re certainly not alone.

The network took a bold step into the late night animation realm with Axe Cop and High School USA on Saturday night. The folks at Adult Swim have apparently been watching these shows very closely.

Unbeknownst to FOX, the Turner network purchased a pair of ads on local affiliates that were designed to poke some fun at the similarities between Adult Swim and Animation Domination High-Def. The ads were extremely simple — just white text on a black background.

The first advertisement read:

The preceding content has been a work of fiction. Any resemblance to networks, living or dead, is purely coincidental. Pay close attention to the label. Many suitcases look alike. You may find yourself at a beautiful network with a beautiful suitcase. You may ask yourself: How did I get here? [adult swim]

Not only did Adult Swim manage to have a little fun at ADHD’s expense, they also managed to work in a Talking Heads reference. It doesn’t get much better than that.

The second ad joked:

Congratulations to the crew at ADHD on the launch of their new shows. We wish you all the best. Nice place you got here…How are the kids?. Great, Great stuff. We’re going to go home now [adult swim].

Not to be outdone, the folks at FOX’s ADHD responded on Twitter to the Adult Swim ads. In short, they really appreciated the monetary contribution.

Axe Cop originated as a webcomic designed five-year-old Malachai Nicolle and his 29-year-old brother Ethan Nicolle. High School USA appears to be a parody of Archie Comics, though this writer was hoping it was based on the obscure Michael J. Fox flick of the same name.
