Walmart to carry iPad beginning October 15th, with straight up Apple pricing

Retail giant Walmart is joining Best Buy and Target in carrying Apple’s popular iPad tablet, but don’t expect a price break to $497 for lower end models- the retailer will be sell the devices at standard Apple pricing.

The mega-store will be carrying all six versions of the device, with the base model starting at $499, just like in Apple stores and other retailers. The rollout begins Friday, and by mid-November, the device is expected to be sold in 2,300 of Walmart’s approximately 3,600 locations. The device will also be available on Walmart.com, but shoppers have to visit a Walmart store anyway to pick up iPads in person.

According to the New York Times, between three and five million iPads have been sold since Apple launched the device in the spring. Walmart did not announce which stores would be carrying the iPads, nor if “Site to Store” ordering is available in every Walmart location for the devices.
