Jason Calacanis To Take On TechCrunch….With An Email Newsletter

Old habits die hard with some people in the tech news game, and Weblogs Inc and Mahalo founder Jason Calacanis is going back to his roots, with a new email newsletter.

The publication, titled Launch, aims to take on TechCrunch head on with serious tech startup news, and naturally comes with an associated conference/ event.

Calacanis told Jemima Kiss at The Guardian:

“If you get people to commit to an email relationship, it’s the deepest most intimate relationship you can have online. Much deeper than Facebook and certainly more intimate than a blog,” he says.

“I want high-quality insider information, a celebration of entrepreneurship and taking risk. I want it serious and insightful rather than salacious and link-baity.”

Calacanis started his tech reporting career editing and publishing Silicon Alley Reporter, an email newsletter that covered the first web boom in New York.
