MSNBC Host Wears Tampons As Earrings To Protest Texas Abortions Laws

Melissa Harris Perry, a host of MSNBC, devised an ingenious plan to protest the recent abortion bill in Texas that was passed, by wearing tampons as earrings.

Security at Texas Capitol in Austin, Texas, banned tampons from the building on July 12, as they were worried that protestors would use them to attack lawmakers.

Harris-Perry, a prominent feminist and civil rights advocate, stated, “The Texas state legislature said that you couldn’t bring tampons in, when these women were going to, in fact, stand up for their reproductive rights.”

Harris Perry added that her producer, who she only referred to as Lorena, created the bizarre fashion accessory last week.

She then added, in reference to this peculiar law, “So just in case that ever happens again, ladies, you can just bring them on your earrings.” The news programme then continued to an upcoming segment on the Broadway musical, Kinky Boots, and Harris Perry then put on her normal piece of jewellery.

As the protests escalated earlier this month, Troopers working in the state building searched vigorously through every person’s bag who entered. In these searches they found jars of urine and faeces, which were set to be hurled at those working.

The Texas Department of Public Safety, then decided to release a press release explaining what they had found. It read, “During these inspections, DPS officers have thus far discovered one jar suspected to contain urine, 18 jars suspected to contain feces, and three bottles suspected to contain paint.”

The statement then added, “All of these items – as well as significant quantities of feminine hygiene products, glitter and confetti possessed by individuals – were required to be discarded; otherwise those individuals were denied entry into the gallery.”

What do you think of the recent abortion restrictions imposed in Texas? Did you find Melissa Harris Perry’s tampon earrings protest endearing?
