‘Hot In Cleveland’ Headed To Russian Television

The TV Land comedy Hot in Cleveland is coming to Russia.

An adaptation of the hit sitcom is headed to Channel One later this month. Since the country shares many of the same cultural attitudes regarding town and country, it’s believed the show will be a good fit for Russian viewers.

Much like the American program, the adaptation of Hot in Cleveland will follow a group of friends from a big city who make a trip to a small town. When they discover that the people there think they’re hot, the women decide to stick around for a little while.

Weit Media, which is owned by Endemol, will produce the program. The company reportedly picked up the rights to Hot in Cleveland shortly after the series hit TV Land back in 2010. A spokesperson for Endemol Worldwide Distribution said the show will air in over 200 territories.

The sitcom isn’t the only American series that has made the jump to Russia. The market also includes adaptations of Money Drop, Prison Break, and How I Met Your Mother.

Earlier this year, TV Land announced that Hot in Cleveland was renewed for a fifth season. Betty White, Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, and Wendie Malick are all expected to return.

“This is an incredible milestone for the show and for TV Land. To have our first scripted sitcom make it to the syndication level is a huge accomplishment. We have a brilliant creative team both in front of and behind the camera. We are so proud to be on this exciting ride with them,” TV Land president Larry W. Jones explained.

The Russian version of the comedy is expected to premiere in the country on July 29.

What do you think about Hot in Cleveland getting adapted for the Russian market? Do you think the premise will translate well into other cultures?
