Jay Z Attends Trayvon Martin Rally With Beyonce [Video]

Jay Z attended a Trayvon Martin rally this weekend in New York City with his wife Beyonce.

The celebrity couple kept a “low profile” at the rally. The two were photographed with Reverend Al Sharpton and Trayvon’s mother Sybrina Fulton but they did not speak at the event. Sharpton did, however, and mentioned the singers in his speech.

Sharpton said: “Jay Z and Beyoncé said they didn’t want to speak and they didn’t come for a photo op. Jay Z told me, ‘I’m a father. Beyonce is a mother.’ We all feel the pain and apprehension — the laws must protect everybody, or it doesn’t protect anybody.”

Beyonce and Jay Z did not speak at the Trayvon Martin rally but they have both voiced their opinion on the controversial trial this week. Beyonce posted an image of Trayvon on her website and urged people to sign a petition on Change.org.

The singer wrote: “We are still struggling with the issue of inequality and the lack of value for a black man’s life. Trayvon Martin’s most basic civil right, the right to live, was violated. We have made so much progress and cannot allow hatred and racism to divide us.”

Jay Z also paid tribute to the Trayvon during a concert in New York. The singer dedicated his song “Forever Young” to Martin.
