‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Hits Blu-Ray, DVD At Warp Speed This September

Star Trek Into Darkness is expected to arrive on Blu-ray and DVD this September.

Director J.J. Abrams’ second installment of his rebooted Star Trek saga generated an impressive wad of cash during its theatrical run earlier this year. The movie stands to make quite a bit more money from fans and franchise aficionados once it arrives on home video.

Star Trek Into Darkness is headed to multiple formats, including Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, DVD, and digital download. However, folks who are obsessed with extras and behind-the-scenes featurettes will want to splurge on the high-definition version of the sequel.

Some of the mini-documentaries included in the Blu-ray release explain how a number of the film’s huge set pieces were constructed. Not only will fans get to see how the filmmakers brought the Klingon planet Kronos to life, they will also get an in-depth look at the “space jump” sequence.

If you’re not interested in high-def or special features, then the DVD and digital download is probably the way to go. However, Amazon is currently listing the Blu-ray combo pack at a reasonable $19.99. That’s not a bad deal if you really enjoyed Star Trek Into Darkness in theaters.

When can fans expect another entry in Abrams’ franchise? According to star Zachary Quinto, the wait between the second and third installments shouldn’t be very long.

“‘Star Trek 3’ should be filming, I suppose, next year. It’s going to be made a lot quicker than the last one. That’s the plan, although nothing is confirmed yet,” he explained to BuzzHub.

Quinto also explained that J.J. Abrams still wants to direct the next Star Trek movie. Since the filmmaker is currently attached to Star Wars: Episode VII, it remains to be seen if he can balance the two franchises.

Star Trek Into Darkness is scheduled to hit Blu-ray, DVD, and digital download on September 10. Are you planning to pick up a copy of the sequel on home video?
