Zachary Quinto And Jonathan Groff End Relationship, Remain Great Friends

American Horror Story’s Zachary Quinto and Glee’s Jonathan Groff decided to call it quits as a couple. The couple has been dating since 2010, and had been the first public relationship for Quinto since he came out in 2011.

Quinto and Groff decided to end their relationship amicably a few months ago, but the news is just hitting the internet now. Although Us Weekly said that the two didn’t end on good terms, the couple remain friends.

According to US Weekly the distance between the two actors put strain on the relationship, with a source telling the magazine: “Zach being away and filming was not easy on them. Now he’s going to be in New York with his new play [‘The Glass Menagerie’]. They really loved each other, so it wasn’t an easy split.”

According to JustJared, since the split Quinto has gone to see Groff perform in L.A.’s Theatre Work’s play “Red” in addition to a one-production night to benefit “The Pirates of Penzance” on June 10 in New York City.

It’s been an extremely difficult week for Jonathan Groff. Groff, who appeared on Glee as a recurring character, flew to be by best friend Lea Michele’s side after the death of her boyfriend and co-star Cory Monteith. It’s said that the three actors were close to each other.

In order to be at her side, Groff had production on his new show The Normal Heart suspended. Jonathan Groff and Lea Michele met each other in 2006 when they starred on Broadway together in Spring Awakening.

Before Jonathan Groff dated Zachary Quinto he was linked to Broadway star Gavin Creel. Upon coming out, Quinto admitted to living a once closeted life, and was motivated to change that due to teen Jamey Rodemeyer committing suicide:

“It became clear to me in an instant that living a gay life without publicly acknowledging it – is simply not enough to make any significant contribution to the immense work that lies ahead on the road to complete equality.”

When reached for a comment, Groff’s rep had the standard “no comment” and Quinto’s rep had yet to respond.
