Tara VanDerveer’s Stanford Coach Contract Renewed

Tara VanDerveer’s Stanford coach contract has been renewed for the long term.

Stanford actually had Tara VanDerveer set to be their women’s basketball coach through the end of the 2014/2015 season.

Back in March, Tara VanDerveer discussed whether her Stanford contract could be extended for the long term:

“I love it here. This spring we’re going to have a conversation. I will meet with Bernard and figure out what the plan will be. It seems it’s a good thing to have a contract with the things that are happening. Basically, it’s just an athletic director and university decide if you’re going to work for them. There’s always pressure on coaches.”

That conversation must have gone well because Tara VanDerveer announced today her Stanford coaching contract was extended. No specific details about the new deal have been released, but it’s said to be for the long term.

Tara VanDerveer has a women’s basketball record of 742 wins to 152 losses at Stanford and 894 to 203 overall. With six more victories Tara VanDerveer would become the fifth women’s basketball coach to win 900 times.

Stanford athletic director Bernard Muir essentially says Tara VanDerveer could stay as long as she wants:

“Simply put, Tara VanDerveer is one of the great educators in the game of basketball. Beyond the game, Tara means so much to Stanford and we take great pleasure in knowing that she will positively impact our student-athletes for years to come.”

Tara VanDerveer, for her part, seems excited to be staying at Stanford:

“We are so much improved, I am excited! All good on The Farm!”
