‘Turbo’ Races To The Box Office With $6 Million On Wednesday

Turbo proved to be a popular choice for families on Wednesday. The Ryan Reynolds animated comedy scored a tidy $6 million from moviegoers right out of the gate.

The DreamWorks Animation flick tells the story of a garden snail who dreams of racing in the Indianapolis 500. As you can tell from the trailer, the little guy gets a chance to prove himself.

In addition Reynolds, Turbo stars Paul Giamatti, Snoop Dogg, Michael Pena, Maya Rudolph, Michelle Rodriguez, and Samuel L. Jackson.

Unfortunately for DreamWorks, the latest animated comedy may not make the biggest splash at the box office over the next few days. Deadline is reporting that industry insiders believe the flick will only bring home around $35 million.

This could be due to the number of similar movies that are currently playing in theaters all over the country. Not only can moviegoers check out Despicable Me 2, they can also buy a ticket for the Disney-Pixar sequel Monsters University.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, studios have released a record number of high-profile animated movies into cinemas this season. In just a handful of weeks, moviegoers will also be able to check out The Smurfs 2 as well as the Disney comedy Planes starring Dane Cook.

From the way analysts are talking, it could be a rough weekend for a number of new movies this weekend. The Inquisitr previously reported that the upcoming action-comedy R.I.P.D. is predicted to crash and burn at the box office. Oddly enough, the flick also stars Ryan Reynolds.

After a string of hit films earlier this year, Universal Pictures may find itself with a summer flop on its hands. The $130 million Men in Black-style adventure will likely bring in around $15 million by Sunday. I suppose they can’t all be zingers.

Are you planning to catch Turbo in theaters this weekend? Do you think the DreamWorks Animation flick will get lost in the shuffle at the box office?
