Keith Olbermann’s ESPN Show ‘Olbermann’ Premieres August 26

Keith Olbermann’s ESPN return is nearing with the controversial ratings juggernaut preparing to host Olbermann.

The new show, which debuts on August 26, is a daily late-night program that starts at 11 p.m Eastern.

ESPN President John Skipper released the following statement about the new show:

“Keith brings a blend of editorial sophistication and unpredictability — you can never be sure what you’ll get.”

Olbermann will air on ESPN 2 and will feature a mix of commentary, interviews, contributors, panel discussions, and highlights.

While fans of Keith Olbermann’s shows on MSNBC and Current TV might expect a certain focus, the network says he will not take a partisan position.

Olbermann was a popular host on ESPN before he began feuding with executives. The move to once again secure his services will help ESPN compete further against Rupert Murdoch’s Fox Sports 1. Murdoch will launch his new 24-hour sports channel in August.

Keith Olbermann last hosted a show for ESPN 2 in 1993. Olbermann worked at the network until 1997 when he had a falling out with network executives.

Since his fallout a lot has changed, ESPN is now under the ownership of the Walt Disney Corp., and its fan base has significantly grown.

Before he hosted Countdown with Keith Olbermann for eight years Keith spent three years with Fox Sports Networks.

It will be interesting to see if Keith Olbermann can keep his cool at ESPN. Al Gore’s Current TV hired Olbermann to work at Current TV, and that 13-month partnership ended in accusations and lawsuits from Olberm

Will you be tuning in to see Keith Olbermann on ESPN? I am interested to see if he can transition back to a sports show after eight years of attacking pundits with a decidedly biased point of view.
