Ohio Man, Pat Mahaney, Dies A Year After Teens Beat Him Over Boredom

An Ohio man died almost a year after six teens brutally beat him just because they were bored.

Last year in August, Pat Mahaney was just returning to his home in a Cincinnati suburb when the teens knocked him unconscious and took turns hitting him in the face and head.

The 46-year-old had several internal injuries and a black eye and stayed in the hospital for several weeks. And the 13 and 14-year-old boys who beat him did it because they were “bored.” Yup, you read that right.

Pat Mahaney’s neighbor, Marty Korte, doesn’t understand why anyone would want to hurt him.

“He was a good boy. He was taking care of his mother,” he said.

Two of the teens were sentenced to probation last month while three others pleaded guilty to felony assault and face sentencing. The sixth teen contested the charges and might go to trial.

Pat Mahaney was traumatized after the incident and didn’t take very good care of his health. He would not even leave his home to go to the doctor.

The teens might face a harsher penalty since Mahaney died. “If the coroner comes back and says that his injuries are a result of that beating those kids will be charged with some type of homicide offense,” Fox19’s legal analyst Mike Allen said.

“An individual died I think it was four or five years after the fact, and in that case, the Butler County prosecutor was able to go back and institute new charges,” he added.

Pat Mahaney’s brother, Jeff Mahaney, hopes that justice will be served.

“They did contribute to his death, but I hope the judge keeps them in jail until they’re 21 anyway and I hope they can learn something from this,” he said.

Do you think that the six teens should be held responsible for Pat Mahaney’s death?
