Oregon bus driver caught reading Kindle while operating the bus

Getting a Kindle can be really exciting, and it often ups the amount of reading you can work in to your schedule.

Having easy access to any book you digitally have access to is tempting- so tempting, in fact, that a bus driver in Portland, Oregon was filmed e-flicking through the pages of a novel while he drove his bus. Amusingly, the preponderance of other digital devices allowed this event to be recorded- a passenger with a cell phone camera managed to film the driver reading while driving.

A local news station interviewed the passsenger, who wished to not be identified, about the incident:

The video shows the driver, whose name has not yet been released, looking up and down at the device while he drives. At one point, the driver uses only an elbow to steer the bus for a few seconds, while looking down at the Kindle. He seldom has both hands on the wheel.

“When I departed the bus, he asked if I took his picture while he was driving. I said I had, and he responded that I was not allowed to take his photo while he was driving,” the passenger said.

According to TriMet spokeswoman Bekki Witt, who called the incident “totally unacceptable,” several complaints were received about the driver and he was put on administrative leave while an investigation is pending. Video below:
