Xbox Live Fighting Games On Sale After EVO 2013: Round One, Fight!

An Xbox Live fighting games sale has begun after the finale of EVO 2013!

What has now been officially the most watched fighting game tournament of all time, due to record stream views for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Super Smash Bros. Melee, has now spawned a massive sale on the games used in the tournament. For those viewers who want to practice in case they can make it to the championships next year, Xbox Live is selling download copies of nearly everything available at a discount.

Not all of the fighting games used in the EVO 2013 tournament are available, however, considering many of them aren’t even downloadable through Xbox Live, and some, like Injustice: Gods Among Us, are really too new.

Super Smash Bros. Melee fans will have to look elsewhere, as Nintendo isn’t about to sell its first-party games on an competing console. Skeptics might say it’s about time they started, considering the flagging sales of their primary consoles, but that’s beside the point.

The Xbox Live fighting games on sale from EVO 2013 are:

  • Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition – the latest current update on what many would say is the best game in the Street Fighter series. It includes all of the new fighters and stages as of now, and will only run you 1200 Microsoft Points, or $14.99.
  • Mortal Kombat – the ninth game in the long-running Mortal Kombat series, using the continuity of the games before it to make it technically not a complete reboot, even though it is. Mortal Kombat takes the controls of the original series and throws them out in favor of a return to 2D fighting, and restores the fatalities from before. Mortal Kombat also updates the graphics for even more brutal “X-ray” moves that show bones being broken in slow motion. The game will only cost 800 Microsoft Points, or $9.99, and the Komplete Edition update is a mere 200 Microsoft Points, or $2.50, making this the best value among the Xbox Live fighting games for sale.

  • Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 – this is your chance to own the most watched fighting game at EVO 2013. It contains characters you’ve probably never heard of and mixes them in with others everybody knows, all in a three-on-three tag-team style fighting game featuring super assist moves and the final boss Galactus. This one will only cost 1200 Microsoft Points, or $14.99.
  • Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition – the last Street Fighter before the series successfully went 3D boasts the most advanced 2D fighting system the series had seen up to that point, as well as some of the most incredible art styles. Grab this game for 300 Microsoft Points, or $3.75.

Now is as good a time as any to start getting your practice in for the EVO tournament in 2014, and with these discounts, you might want to go ahead and take the plunge.

What do you think of the Xbox Live fighting games sale based on EVO 2013?

[Update] Mortal Kombat is only being discounted for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. Sorry about the confusion.
