Walmart Gets ‘First Batch’ Of Twinkies

Twinkies are back and they’re back early. Walmart put out its “first batch” of Twinkies this week, three days before Hostess’ national roll out.

Walmart is selling its Twinkies in specially marked “First Batch” boxes. The new Twinkies also come with the treats new momentary tagline: “The Sweetest Comeback in the History of Ever.”

Walmart company spokeswoman Veronica Marshall said that the company has been working with Hostess to make sure that they had the first batch of fresh Twinkies. Marshall said that Walmart’s “first batch” Twinkies have never been frozen.

Marshall said: “These are the first production of Twinkies since production restarted… Each box that arrived to us contains fresh Twinkies and not frozen ones.”

Walmart Twinkies may be fresh but you really don’t have to rush over to buy them. According to UPI, the new Twinkies have a shelf life of 45 days. The old Twinkies were only good for 26 days.

Walmart currently has the Hostess snack at about 1,600 stores. The treat should be available in 3000 stores by the end of the weekend.

HoHos, Zingers and Sno Balls aren’t available yet but they should be hitting stores soon.

Hostess went bankrupt last year and shut down production of Twinkies on November 21, 2012. The great Twinkies famine only last as few months as Matropoulos & Co,, the company that also owns Hardee’s, Chef Boyardee and Pabst Brewing Co., bought Hostess and started manufacturing Twinkies again.
