Average penis size study

Average Penis Size Study Stacks Up With Previous Research

A new study conducted by sexuality researchers at Indiana University has found that the average size of an erect penis is exactly 5.57 inches.

The number is surprisingly in line with previous research, “suggesting that men likely self-report data accurately — or at least reliably — to research teams,” according to The Atlantic Wire.

The study also found that men who received oral sex as part of the measurement process “reported a greater erect length and circumference than did some other men.” But Dr. Debby Hebernick, co-directer of the Center for Sexual Health Promotion at Indiana University’s School of Public Health-Bloomington, said the researchers could not tell from the data whether the results meant that oral sex is more arousing to men, or if men who have larger erect penises are more likely to receive oral sex from a partner.

However, the research wasn’t actually a study about penis sizes — it was about condoms, and Hebernick said that penis size just happened to be relevant.

“… [We] later thought that others might be interested in the data, particularly because the men would have presumably been motivated to report their penis size accurately in order to receive condoms to fit their penis,” she said.

Hebernick added that the men in the study were incentivized to be honest “because we were using their size data to match them to a condom that was sized to fit their erect penis. If they reported a bigger-than-reality size to us, they would get a baggier condom. If they reported a smaller-than-reality size to us, the condom would be too tight.”

Don’t want to drop trou in front of strangers to find out your penis size? There’s an app for that. The Condom Size app helps men figure out their exact measurements to help determine what size they should be buying. Measuring length is easy enough, but girth is a bit more involved and requires the user to wrap a piece of string around the penis and then lay it length-wise against the app’s girth scale.

Are you surprised that the average penis size determined by Hebernick and her team corroborates previous research?
