Ian Ziering will take on dangerous sharks and deadly tornadoes in SyFy’s aptly-titled Sharknado.
Once upon a time you didn’t see any big names in these low-budget made-for-TV flicks. However, recent SyFy joints seem to be drawing a handful of familiar faces looking for a quick and easy paycheck.
The former 90210 star and American Pie alum Tara Reid will battle spinning sharks in writer Thunder Levin and director Anthony C. Ferrante’s Sharknado. The film premieres tonight (June 11) on SyFy.
Although the title should tell you everything about the movie, there is actually a plot running through this thing. The setup is pretty basic: A guy looking to get his life back on the right track has an opportunity to prove himself when sharks begin attacking people from inside tornadoes.
The trailer suggests that Levin and Ferrante aren’t taking the subject matter very seriously. Ian Ziering and his co-stars also appear to have their tongues placed firmly into their cheeks. Sharknado looks like a splendid way to kill 90-minutes of your life and a handful of brain cells.
Fighting airborne sharks isn’t the only way Ziering makes a living these days. The 49-year-old actor recently wrapped up a stint with Chippendales at the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ziering reportedly dropped 25 pounds prior to signing on for the project.
“When I got the call from Chippendales, my jaw dropped as it came on the heels of TMZ calling me fat on national TV. I am passionate about health and fitness, so I’ve kept in shape, and dancing is something I’ve always enjoyed, so I figured why not? I am so excited to be a part of this iconic worldwide organization,” the actor explained weeks before his scheduled debut.
Ian Ziering fans can catch Sharknado tonight at 9 pm on SyFy.
