Demi Lovato’s Tonsils Are Being Removed After Several Throat-Related Illnesses

Demi Lovato’s tonsils are being removed after the former Disney star and singer suffered through several throat-related illnesses.

Lovato cancelled her Fourth of July performance in Philadelphia due to strep throat. Lovato has also missed other various performances and scheduled appearances because of throat issues.

Speaking to Omg! at an Acuvue Brand Contact Lenses event in L.A. on Tuesday, the singer revealed of her upcoming surgery:

“It’s not something I’m looking forward to necessarily, but I am looking forward to the time off.”

The 20-year-old star is currently promoting her new album Demi, which means her time off will be short lived. Demi will take a week and a half off and then she’ll be back at work.

Demi Lovato has been taking more control of her career in recent months. The singer recently stepped behind the lens to direct her new music video Made in the USA. Lovato was assisted on the shoot by co-director Ryan Pallotta. The new music video drops on July 17.

With a new album, time spent behind the camera, and a budding friendship with “Call Me Maybe” singer Carly Rae Jepsen, it looks like things have really turns around for Lovato after spending time in rehab where she dealt with depression and addiction.

Demi Lovato also recently reached out to an aspiring musician through the Acuvue 1-DAY Contest. Here’s a video from the Acuvue mentorship program:
