Meredith Vieira has landed a gig to host a new daytime talk show, imaginatively titled The Meredith Vieira Show, for NBCUniversal Domestic Television Distribution.
According to The Wrap, The Meredith Vieira Show will actually be produced on a set that looks like the inside of her home — “complete with her actual furniture and family photos.” When it debuts in fall 2014, she said in a statement that, “Each day, I hope to accomplish what I call the three H’s: Heat, Heart and Humor.”
The plan is for the program to mix up what they called feel-good human interest stories with celebrity guests. The show will be produced in New York.
Her resumé was summed up by The Los Angeles Times, which says that the Today Show has faltered in the ratings since her departure in 2011. She was also a co-host on The View from 1997 to 2006.
Vieira has worked as a host for Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? for 11 seasons — a job that will pass to Cedric the Entertainer.
She’s also a special correspondent for NBC News. NBC Broadcasting chairman Ted Harbert released a statement saying, “She creates an instant connection with audiences with her smart, quick-witted and down-to-earth style. This entertaining and substantive show will be a great way to reach her loyal daytime fans as well as new ones who will discover why Meredith is one of America’s most loved television personalities.”
In April, Meredith Vieira spoke out about the so-called “Operation Bambi” to force Ann Curry off the Today show, coming to the defense of embattled host Matt Lauer. Saying that NBC blew Curry’s firing from a PR point of view, she added: “I think what is happening to Matt is really wrong.”
Because I’m all mature like that, I figured you might get a kick out of the time Meredith Vieira says “Oh S***” live on the Today Show. Check out that blast from the past on this video:
Despite the blooper, she’s clearly a pro with a sense of humor.
