Mathew Knowles: Beyonce, Solange Knowles Didn’t Attend Dad’s Wedding

Mathew Knowles has now confirmed a rumor that his daughters Beyoncé and Solange Knowles didn’t bother to attend their own father’s wedding last Sunday to Gena Charmaine Avery.

As I reported yesterday, the 61-year-old former Beyoncé manager and the 48-year-old ex-model tied the knot in a Houston, Texas ceremony. We had absolutely zero reason to believe that Mathew Knowles’ famous daughters were in any way, shape, or form enthusiastic about the new marriage. Not to be catty, but I think I left a pretty broad hint that I didn’t think Beyoncé was skipping for joy that she’d gotten a new stepmother.

Beyoncé’s silence on the topic is matched only by her father’s very terse statement to gossip site TMZ. Mathew Knowles reportedly told them: “Unfortunately, Beyoncé and Solange had previous engagements which made it impossible for them to attend.”

Wow. That’s it. That’s all she wrote.

According to Digital Spy, the litigious Knowles has previously threatened to sue UK tabloid The Sun for suggesting that he’s estranged from Beyoncé and may not have even met his granddaughter Blue Ivy.

And Beyoncé herself has said in the past that she isn’t estranged from her father — although she fired him as a manager in the same year he divorced her mother, his wife of 31 years. The split appeared to come as fallout from Mathew Knowles’ affair with Scrubs actress Alexsandra Wright, who had to bring a paternity suit to force Knowles to provide support for their son.

Well, you know what? I hate to use the word “estranged” if it upsets them so much.

So what’s another good word for it when somebody’s own daughter is way too busy to show up for her father’s wedding?
