Chivas USA Signs 16-Year-Old Caleb Calvert [Video]

Caleb Calvert, 16, has just signed a contract with Chivas USA.

According to Major League Soccer, at 16 years, 10 months, and 17 days old Calvert is the youngest player in Chivas USA history. The young soccer player will be eligible to play as soon as this Sunday in Montreal.

Calvert has been part of the Chivas USA Youth Academy for the last two years and has already dressed for the team during a few reserve league matches.

Calvert said: “I’m beyond thrilled.  I never thought this moment would come this soon and this fast but I’m living my dream right now, and it’s the most incredible feeling anyone can have … Hopefully I get adjusted and comfortable soon and from there I can start playing my game and doing what I do best, scoring goals.”

Chivas USA needs some fresh young talent at the moment. The team hasn’t won a game since March 30 and they are currently last in the Western Conference.

Director of soccer Francisco Palencia said in a statement: “Caleb Calvert is a very talented player whose development in the Academy we’ve been following for a long time … He’s a player with very good movement in the entire field and a great finisher inside the box. I believe he has in him all the requirements we need in a forward at Chivas USA.”

Chivas USA’s Youth Academy Director Sacha van der Most added: “Our Youth Development Program is extremely happy for Caleb to step up and move to the next level … I think it’s well deserved as he has proved himself at the U16’s and U18’s levels this whole year and also by stepping up in the Reserve League games.”
