2010 College Football Preview: Texas Longhorns

The Texas Longhorns will enter the 2010 CFB season as the #9 ranked team according to teh Sporting News. While other teams rebuild and try to become national champions, this team has to make slight adjustments and tweaks to turn a BCS title game apperance into a BCS title. We all know the list of great Longhorn RB’s and the next name we will need to learn is Tre Newton. One thing this team really knows how to do is run the ball. We must also pay attention to their defensive secondary which is loaded with talent.

The key date on their schedule is when they travel to Dallas to take on the Oklahoma Sooners in new Cowboys Stadium. Whoever wins that game will likely win the Big 12 South. After a bye week they get to travel to Nebraska and get a little Big 12 revenge on that school for jumping ship to the Big Ten.

I am sure we will be hearing a lot about their H back or TE Barrett Matthews, but the next big thing on this team is Defensive Lineman Sam Acho. He is a DE/OLB guy in the style of Brian Orakpo and Sergio Kindle. He is a disruptor and should reek havoc on Longhorn opponents.

This team will lean on their running game not just because they are good at it, but because sophomore Garrett Gilbert should not have to shoulder so much of the burden of this team. He got thrust into a bad situation last year when Colt McCoy went down in the first quarter of the BCS championship game. After a shaky start he did throw for two TD’s against a very good Alabama defense.
