Joey Chestnut Eats 69 Hot Dogs, Sets New Record [Video]

Joey Chestnut has done it again. For the 7th year in a row the competitive eater has won the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest and he did it with a new world record.

Chestnut, who ate 68 hot dogs during last year’s 10 minute contest to set the record, upped his total by one during today’s Fourth of July celebration at Coney Island.

According to the Huffington Post, Chestnut, who is also known as “Jaws,” won $10,000 and a mustard-yellow championship belt for eating 69 hot dogs in 10 minutes.

Chestnut only needed to eat 52 hot dogs to win this year’s competition. The second biggest eater this year was Matt “Megatoad” Stonie who ate 51 hot dogs.

In the women’s division, Sonya “Black Widow” Thomas, who once ate ate 183 wings in under 12 minutes,” retained her championship title.

Thomas, who holds the women’s record with 45 hot dogs, only managed to take down 36 and 3/4 hot dogs today at Coney Island. But that mark was good enough to beat Juliet Lee, who lost out on the championship by 3/4 of a hot dog.

This was the 97th annual Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest. The annual event has become the “Super Bowl” of eating competitions and even gets coverage on ESPN.
