Busy Philipps Gives Birth To Second Child

Busy Philipps has given birth to her second chid.

The Cougar Town actress and her screenwriter husband Marc Silverstein welcomed their second daughter on July 2. The 34-year-old revealed that she was having a daughter at the Case of You screening during the Tribeca Film Festival in April.

“Everyone is healthy and happy,” Phillips’ representative told PEOPLE. The baby girl weighted 8.5 pounds.

The new baby joins big sister Birdie Leigh, who was born in August 2008. Actress Lizzy Caplan, who appeared on Freaks and Geeks with Philipps, is the child’s godmother.

Philipps announced her pregnancy in December by posting a picture of her positive pregnancy test on Twitter. She told the Huffington Post in April that Birdie couldn’t wait to be a big sister.

“My daughter is super excited,” she said “She’s actually incredibly helpful and … she’s really understanding things, when I say like, ‘Mom can’t carry you right now because the baby in her tummy is pressing down on her bladder!’ She understands what that means and she’s cool with it.

She added that she believes mothers should be given a break when it comes to their weight, and said she doesn’t feel any pressure to bounce back after giving birth.

“Like most things in this business, I think that you have to do what’s right for you and you can’t be too concerned about what some magazine is going to write about you,” she said.

Philipps also said that motherhood has given her more credibility as a celebrity.

“I only became a celebrity because I had a kid. Before I was pregnant nobody cared,” she said. “My husband has a theory that celebrity gossip feels so seedy, but if you can put a positive spin on it, like touting a new baby, then people somehow feel it’s okay. I joke to my agent that having a baby made my career.”

Philipps tweeted a picture of her new addition Wednesday.

Congratulations to the happy parents!
