Robin Thicke Drops New Single ‘Give It 2 U’ [Audio]

Robin Thicke has released the third single from his upcoming album, Blurred Lines.

Titled “Give It 2 U,” the track features Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar. Thicke said he thinks Lamar is “amazing” and that his management had sent the song to Lamar at the same time he sent it to 2 Chainz.

“So I already had a 2 Chainz version and then suddenly we hear that Kendrick loves the record and already recorded a verse,” he said. “And I was like, ‘Oh my god, this is incredible.’ So they’re both on the song now, because it’s just too good.”

Thicke also said about the song, “It’s very exciting. It’s very Michael Jackson, Prince but also pretty hip-hop. It’s a big, shiny pop record. It’s fun.”

The first single from the new album, “Blurred Lines,” was criticized for its “rapey” lyrics and video. Thicke told GQ that he wanted to push boundaries with his new album.

“We tried to do everything that was taboo. Bestiality, drug injections, and everything that is completely derogatory towards women,” he said. “Because all three of us (Thicke, T.I., and Pharrell) are happily married with children, we were like, ‘We’re the perfect guys to make fun of this.'”

Thicke went on to say:

“People say, ‘Hey, do you think this is degrading to women?’ I’m like, “Of course it is. What a pleasure it is to degrade a woman. I’ve never gotten to do that before. I’ve always respected women.’ So we just wanted to turn it over on its head and make people go, ‘Women and their bodies are beautiful. Men are always gonna want to follow them around.'”

This carries over to “Give It 2 U,” which features such gems as “I got this for you/a little Thicke for you/ A big kiss for you/I got a hit for you/Big d*** for you/Let me give it to you” (we see this same proclamation in the video for “Blurred Lines.”)
