Ruben Studdard Joins ‘Biggest Loser’ Cast

Ruben Studdard could be the next Biggest Loser.

The former American Idol contestant will be competing on the next season of The Biggest Loser. Studdard, who won the second season of the Fox singing show, has tried to lose weight in the past but he continues to struggle with obesity.

Studdard, who weighed more than 450 pounds in 2006, said that he started trying to lose weight because his family has a history of weight related health issues.

The singer said: “On both sides of my family, I have a history of diabetes and high blood pressure and things of that nature … I just wanted to basically combat those issues at an early age. They’ve never been an issue for me, but I wanted to do it while I was still young and felt like working out and looking great.”

Studdard has tried dieting and exercising in the past and he’s had some success. Unfortunately, Studdard has had a problem keeping the weight off.

Studdard said: “I grew up in the South … So we used to eat everything. And still to this day I have a problem with sweets, which is something that I hope I can get control over in the near future. But everyone has different obstacles that they have to conquer and I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to conquer mine.”

US Magazine reports that Studdard will be the show’s first celebrity contestant when the 15th season premieres on October 8.
