‘Glee’ Ups Its Players To Series Regulars Upon Fan Favorite Departures

Looks like there’s more shake ups on the horizon for the next season of Glee. Season 5 will debut in September, but we have more info on what the season will look like.

For one, we know that series regulars and fan favorites Heather Morris (Brittany), Mark Salling (Puck), Amber Riley (Mercedes), and Harry Shum Jr. (Mike) are all stepping down from the FOX musical. Now it looks like Glee is promoting their fresh new faces as series regulars.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the younger characters, which were introduced in season 4 to usher in new talent include Melissa Benoist (Marley) , Jacob Artist (Jake), Becca Tobin (Kitty), and The Glee Project alumni Blake Jenner and Alex Newell. Although the show has suffered from a ratings dip, the new faces have enjoyed their taste of what it feels like to be a member of the New Directions glee club.

The actors are expected to also appear in the sixth season, which was renewed with season 5 by FOX. As for The Glee Project, which airs  on Oxygen, the fate of that show isn’t exactly known. The Glee Project is a talent show competition that seeks to find fresh talent for the FOX show, and so far they’ve been incredibly successful in finding new talent for the musical dramedy.

Fans of the originals shouldn’t have too much to worry about. While their roles are scaled back, Morris, Salling, Riley, and Shum Jr. are expected to make limited appearances, as well as Dianna Agron, who was the head cheerleader on the show for the first few seasons.

The new regulars join seasoned Glee members Cory Monteith, Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, and Matthew Morrison.

Do you think the new series regulars will rebound Glee to what it used to be? What do you think?
