Brazil Embarrass Spain To Claim Confederations Cup

Brazil annihilated Spain in the Confederations Cup final at the world famous Maracana stadium, to claim the trophy for the third consecutive time.

Brazil were driven on by their huge following, and the five-time world champions never looked like losing to the World and European champions after Fred put them into the lead after just two minutes.

Spain came into the game having not been beaten for 29 games, but they never settled into the game and failed to build a rhythm, whilst Brazil harried and harassed them throughout, whilst counter attacking with a devastating panache.

The Brazlian striker struck twice, early in both halves, but it was their talismanic forward Neymar who once again stole all of the plaudits with a scintillating display, which was summed up by his explosive goal in the forty 44th minute.

Neymar gathered the ball at a tight angle before smashing the ball high into the goal past a despairing Iker Casillas dive. Spain’s misery was confirmed when first of all Sergio Ramos missed a second-half penalty before Gerard Pique was sent off for bringing down Neymar when he was clean through on goal.

Brazil outclassed their more illustrious rivals, with the likes of David Luiz and Thiago Silva excelling at the back, whilst Paulinho provided a strong backbone to the side’s midfield which allowed the likes of Fred, Oscar and Neymar to flourish further up the field.

Brazil’s first goal came courtesy of a defensive mix-up which saw a Hulk cross break to Neymar at the far post, before it bundled its way towards Fred who was able to hook the ball into the goal before Casillas could get to it.

After Neymar’s immaculate strike, Fred then sealed the victory, latching onto a precise through ball after a Neymar dummy to delicately place the ball beyond the despairing goalkeeper.

Do you think Brazil could win the World Cup next year?
