Charlize Theron The Choice To Play Porn Actress Turned TV Host In Movie
Charlize Theron has played a prostitute turned serial killer on the big screen, and now could have a new role as a porn star turned television host.
Late-night icon Robin Byrd, who hosts a leased public access show in New York City that features strippers and prostitutes, wants Charlize to play her in a yet-to-be developed movie. Though there are no hard plans to make the feature, Byrd said this week that she would want the South African actress to portray her if it does come to the big screen.
“I want my movie to come out! Robin Byrd: The Movie, there’s a script floating around,” Robin said. When asked who might play her, Byrd replied, “Charlize Theron, or I actually like Kristin Chenoweth, because my movie is a musical.”
The 56-year-old Byrd has hosted The Robin Byrd Show on leased access cable television in New York since 1977. The show features Byrd in a black crochet bikini and white nail polish, playing host to guests that include adult film stars and prostitutes.
Byrd’s show is pretty racy, with actual strippers performing and Byrd engaging in onscreen sexplay near the end of many episodes. She’s even crossed over into popular culture, with Saturday Night Live parodying her show a few times in the late 1990s (Cheri Oteri played Byrd).
While the movie may or may not be in the works, it could be a long shot that Charlize Theron actually signs on.
In fact, since last year Theron has been busy with a much different kind of role — being a mom. In mid 2012 she adopted a son, Jackson, and said she’s tried to stay out of the public eye as she’s raising him.
Charlize Theron has talked about Jackson a bit, telling Vogue UK that he’s the “coolest kid ever.”
“I’ve always known I wanted a family,” Theron said. “I don’t think my mom could wait anymore!”
It seems like it would be a big jump from playing a mom to playing a porn star on the big screen, but Charlize Theron has taken stranger roles.
