Kristen Wiig Turned Down ‘Bridesmaids 2’

Kristen Wiig has revealed that she turned down the opportunity to write and star in a sequel to her 2011 comedy hit, Bridesmaids.

Wiig co-wrote the first effort with Annie Mumolo, her screenwriting partner, and it went on to be an unexpected hit after it grossed close to $300million at the worldwide box office.

Previously, Melissa McCarthy, who starred as Megan, Maya Rudolph’s Lillian’s future sister in law, turned into a bona fide movie star thanks to her performance in the film, has declared that she would be interested in starring in a sequel.

She stated, “I would do anything. If Kristen [Wiig] and Annie [Mumolo] wrote something, if it was like on the back of a napkin and they wanted me to perform it in the backyard, I would do it. But I’ll let those ladies decide that.”

However, Wiig has now noted that she has already turned down the opportunity to make a follow-up film, telling Harper’s Bazaar, “It wasn’t a hard decision. We knew during the first one, this was it. We would have made a lot of money if there was a second one, but that’s not my goal in my creative life.”

Wiig also discussed the fact that she is now regarded as a romantic lead in films, saying that she finds it strange considering her past as a comedienne.

Wiig stated, “When people first started recognising me, they always gave me a second look because they didn’t really know what I looked like. For a long time it was job to be an unattractive older woman or a creepy-looking kid.”

The former Saturday Night Live star will next be seen in Girl Most Likely, which will hit cinemas next month, whilst she will also star in Anchorman 2, which is due out towards the end of the year.
