‘One Life To Live’ Gets Second Life On OWN

One Life To Live will get another life.

After being canceled in 2011, the soap opera has now been acquired from by Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network along with All My Children. Episodes will air Monday through Thursday for a 10-week run starting July 15.

OWN execs said they are looking forward to One Life To Live joining the network’s lineup.

“These shows have proven to be very popular with a significant, loyal fan base,” said Erik Logan, OWN president, in a statement this week.

After a fan uproar following One Life To Live‘s cancellation in 2011, The Online Network stepped up to give the soap opera a new home.

The fans originally targeted OWN to save the show in 2011, but were rebuffed by Oprah. She responded with a video message saying the network couldn’t save the show as “there just are not enough people who are home in the daytime to watch them.” Two years later she changed her mind, with OWN acquiring the first 40 episodes from The Online Network.

Fans of the soap got some more good news from The Online Network this week. Executives announced that a week’s worth of episodes of both All My Children and One Life To Live would be posted Mondays on Hulu, Hulu Plus, and iTunes starting July 1.

The show’s producer, Prospect Park, had been in a dispute with the I.A.T.S.E. local unions over its production, with the union claiming that the shows were over budget and in violation of a labor agreement. With the issue resolved, One Life To Live fans will get the chance to get their fix of the soap in marathon viewings.

“Now viewers will be able to choose to watch one episode each day or binge view some or all of that week’s shows at once starting each Monday,” a statement from the network read. “Together with the MORE shows, viewers can play or save up to six TOLN programs per week – all available on Mondays – providing even more flexibility to watch anytime, and anywhere.”

Production of One Life To Live continues August 12.
