Paula Deen Scandal Continues, Star Dumped By Walmart

Paula Deen’s no good, very bad week has gotten even more unpleasant for the embattled celebrity chef, as Walmart announced today that it had plans to cease doing business involving her branded products.

Earlier, Paula Deen appeared on Today before Walmart struck another blow to her public image.

During the segment, Deen stated she did not believe she should have been fired for the content of her May 17 deposition during which she admitted to using the “n-word” and detailed a bizarre wedding inspiration involving costumed “slaves.”

In her defense, Deen said:

I believe that … every one of God’s creatures was created equal. I believe that everyone should be treated equal, that’s the way I was raised and that’s the way I live my life.

Before the Walmart deal termination, Paula opined that such actions were harsh for her transgressions:

“Would I have fired me? Knowing me? No. I am so very thankful for the partners I have who believe in me.”

Deen also sort of pushed off responsibility for her use of the word, suggesting that young black people have used it, partially offending her but partially causing her to believe use of the word was appropriate.

She explained:

“It’s very distressing for me to go into my kitchens and hear what these young people are calling each other … it’s very distressing for me. I think for this problem to be worked on, that these young people are gonna have to take control and start showing respect for each other.”

Paula Deen’s Walmart axing comes after the Food Network severed their relationship with the star and Smithfield Ham followed suit and dropped her as a spokeswoman.

Walmart said simply that in regards to Paula Deen and her future with the company’s massive retail reach that the chain would not be placing “any new orders beyond what’s already committed.”
