Actress Angelina Jolie is Forbes‘ most powerful actress on the magazine’s 2013 Celebrity 100 list.
On the choice to put Jolie at the top of the list, Dorothy Pomerantz noted that it was the actress’ preventative double mastectomy and candid openness about it in a New York Times op-ed that has set the 36-year-old mother of 6 apart from the competition.
“Jolie’s ability to shape a national conversation while earning one of the highest paychecks in Hollywood makes her the most powerful actress on our Celebrity 100 list. Jolie ranks 41st overall with $33 million in earnings. Much of that comes from her upfront pay for the movie Maleficent, Disney’s new take on the old Sleeping Beauty story. Jolie stars as the wicked queen in the movie, which is scheduled for release next summer.”
Both financially and socially successful in 2013 thus far, Jolie is followed by newcomer Jennifer Lawrence, a fan-favorite and media darling whose stock continues to skyrocket in Hollywood.
“It’s hard to think of an actress who had a better year than Lawrence,” Pomerantz writes, citing the popularity of her Hunger Games franchise and her 2012 Oscar win for Silver Linings Playbook.
Number three? Jennifer Aniston. Next time, Gadget.
You probably noticed that in the quote up top that Jolie ranks 41st overall. Lawrence ranks 49 and Aniston ranks 64. The reason for this is because the overall list factors in fame, money, marketability, etc. for celebrities of all stripes (not just actors).
The true No. 1 on the list? Oprah.
