Woman Tried To Hire A Killer On Craigslist, Met Undercover Officer Instead

A 23-year-old woman from Iowa attempted to hire a killer to murder her father by placing an advert on Craigslist for a hit-man, but instead was simply met with an undercover police officer.

Megan Schmidt posted the advert on the site on Saturday, and it offered $10,000 for an unnamed job. The Dubuque Country sheriff’s office then confirmed that those people interested in the position were informed that the money was for killing her father.

Bob Lynn, a Captain in the sheriff’s office, confirmed, “When you would respond to it, ‘Hey, I’m interested, what do you have?’ she would immediately inform these people that she would like her father killed. She openly gives out the job specifics to anybody that responded.”

Schmidt then confirmed that they would $10,000 for the job, after it was completed. Lynn was aghast at Schmidt’s advert, stating, “Usually this is something that takes place in a seedy bar or something like that. Who utilizes Craigslist?”

Lynn confirmed that police were informed by several people about the advert, and then an undercover police officer responded to the post on Sunday and met with Schmidt.

They met a Holiday Inn hotel, where the 23-year-old woman then gave him a photo of her father before repeating that she wanted him dead.

Lynn stated, “Basically we came in and took her up on her offer. We made sure she was serious about this.” Schmidt was then arrested and placed into jail, and she could only be released on $50,000 cash-only bond. She now faces charges of attempted murder solicitation to commit murder.

Schmidt stated that she wants her father dad because he has repeatedly assaulted her since she was a child. Authorities are now beginning their investigation into the case.
