‘Canelo’ Alvarez Begins Promotional Tour For Mayweather Fight

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is set to take on Floyd Mayweather in the ring on September 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. To promote the bout, both fighters have just begun an 11-city promotional tour with their first appearance in New York City on Monday.

As expected in boxing promo events, they went face-to-face and had a few words, much to the liking of the crowd. Both are undefeated and the fight is already being called “The One,” making for a 12-round fight for the ages.

“Canelo, I appreciate you for taking the fight,” Mayweather said in front of the thousands of onlookers. “Now,” he added, “let’s give the fans what they want to see.”

Mayweather’s last win came against Robert Guerrero on May 4 by a 12-round decision to give him a perfect 44-0 record in the ring. No matter how many knockouts and controversial wins he has under his belt, the match-up with ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has surely brought in plenty of hype.

As Floyd Mayweather continues to prepare, his confidence is sky high, as usual, and he wasn’t afraid to make it known on Monday.

“The Earth is my turf,” he said. ”You can put me in any ring and I will always come out victorious.”

Alvarez believes it’s his time to shine, and with a 42-0-1 record there isn’t a fighter he’s faced yet that could say otherwise. The 22-year-old from Mexico isn’t backing down from “Money Mayweather” in the slightest bit.

“In the sport of boxing, it’s everybody’s time, and this is my time,” he said through his translator. “I’m going to win.”

The last time he entered the ring he won by unanimous decision over Austin Trout on April 20. His fight with Mayweather will be contested at 152-pounds, which will have multiple titles on the line for both fighters.

Their promotional tour includes stops in Washington, D.C., Chicago, Miami, and Mexico City among others. Do you believe Floyd Mayweather could lose for the first time when he faces Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in the ring on September 14 in Las Vegas?
