Dumb And Dumber 2 Is ‘Painfully Funny,’ Says Jeff Daniels

The saga behind Dumb And Dumber 2 continues.

The sequel the 90s comedy starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels has been in development for years now.

First they couldn’t secure the two main stars to return, then one wanted to while the other didn’t, then they both agreed to it but Warner Bros. decided to drop the picture.

Now, it looks like the movie is finally heading down the home stretch.

Peter and Bobby Farrelly are attached to direct the film, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are set to star, and Universal Studios and Red Granite Pictures have picked up the movie.

Jeff Daniels said:

“It’s taken two years to get the studios and all that stuff worked out. The easiest thing to say in Hollywood is ‘no.’ You keep your job if you say ‘no.’ If you say ‘yes’ and you’re not right, you lose your job. There’s a lot of ‘no.’ And we had a lot of ‘no’ for two years and finally ‘yes,’ it’s comin’ around, and I think it’s got a chance to be I hope better than the first one.”

Daniels said that the new movie would take the stupidity of Harry and Lloyd to the next level.

The actor, who now stars on the incredibly smart News Room, said: “We’re middle-aged and still that stupid. Our IQ has not gone up one point combined … So it’s a frightening thing. You’re gonna see the two of us standing there trying to put thoughts together and you want to put underneath, ‘Kids don’t do this at home.’ It’s that stupid.”

Contact Music reports that Dumb and Dumber To is now set to go into production this summer.
