Robert Downey Jr. Caves In And Signs For ‘Avengers’ Sequels

Robert Downey Jr. will return as Iron Man, just not in other Iron Man films. It’s being reported straight from Marvel, that Downey Jr. signed a deal that would allow him to reprise his role in the franchise The Avengers.

Although he’s expressed that he’s done with Iron Man, the actor who has made the name Tony Stark universally known is appearing in The Avengers 2 and The Avengers 3.

The wise cracking, billionaire, and philanthropist Tony Stark has managed to win hearts, and people’s wallets. The Iron Man 3 film has made over a billion dollars worldwide, and that’s not counting the other two Iron Man films.

There was talk over whether or not Robert Downey Jr. would reprise the role of Iron Man because of his contract with Marvel ending recently. However, the actor decided to sign a two picture deal for The Avengers sequels so he can reprise the role of Iron Man.

In an official press release by Marvel it was said:

“Marvel’s The Avengers 2” is being written and directed by Joss Whedon. Featuring favorites from the first Avengers film and new Marvel characters never before seen on the big screen, “Marvel’s The Avengers 2” is slated to begin production in March 2014 and open in theaters May 1, 2015.”

So where does this leave us off in the case of Iron Man 4? Well, we know for certain now that Downey Jr. will not return, and if the studio wants to go forward they’ll have to get a replacement to fill some pretty huge shoes made by Robery Downey Jr.

However with Downey Jr. on board for The Avengers 3, it does give Marvel the chance to decide what they want to do with the character for the Iron Man series. It may end in a blood bath for Tony Stark, which would keep those pesky rumors of an Iron Man 4 film at bay, and end the character off on a high note and allow a graceful exit for Robert Downey Jr. If Tony Stark does die, it’s a far off future, with The Avengers 3 film projected to come out around 2018.
